My journey

I started my journey of becoming a Counsellor, after having my children and recognising that every child needs complete and unconditional love from their parents. This stirred up some emotions for me which led to a desire to understand my own feelings along with a passion to help children that are struggling with their emotions for various reasons.

I studied with a few local Colleges for 5 years, until qualifying in 2004 as a Humanistic Counsellor at Advanced Diploma Level.

Experience

After qualification, my passion to help children remained and so I initially volunteered my services at a local Counselling Agency in Milton Keynes, working with children aged between 6 and 18. I was also volunteering in Bedfordshire for the Cruse Bereavement Service.

I have since helped set up a completely new counselling service for 13 - 18 year olds locally (part of the Connexions Counselling Service) in the Secondary Schools across Milton Keynes. This service ran for 3 years between 2005 and 2008 until funding was withdrawn. During this period I was also linked with the YiS (Youth information Service - Counselling) which offered counselling for 13 to 25 year olds.

Since 2008, as well as working privately, I have worked for a local Counselling Agency in Milton Keynes where I offered counselling to Adult and Child Carers, GP referrals, Trauma affected clients, Drop-In (crisis consultations) and Primary Schools.

I have also attended many courses since I qualified which have helped develop my counselling skills and grow my expertise in areas such as Puppetry, Sand Play and Story Telling for Children. Filial Therapy which offers play therapy to children and teaches parents how to provide basic play therapy skills to their own children.  Guided Imagery for children and Adults. Drugs and Alcohol Addiction and most recently Therapeutic Coaching.

I have extensive experience of Counselling Children, Young People and Adults. I am a fully Accredited member of NCPS and a member of the CYPT Division of the NCPS. I also hold a current CRB Enhanced Certificate and currently work in several Primary Schools across Milton Keynes as a counsellor/play therapist. I also offer counselling privately for any age from 6 years upwards.
