I am an Integrative Counsellor working with Adults, Young People and Children in the Milton Keynes area. I am a fully Accredited Member of the NCPS and a member of the CYPT (Children and Young People’s Therapist) Division of the NCPS. I hold a PG Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People, an Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a current CRB Enhanced Certificate (now the new DBS). I have been working as a counsellor since 2004 and my initial training was in the Person Centred Counselling Model, which focuses on enabling you to understand your feelings and accept, grow and/or change at your own pace.
What my refers say?
A direct quote from the Deputy Head of one of the schools I work in with children aged 5 to 11;
"Kelly.... has had a positive impact on the wellbeing of all the children she has worked with."
"Therapy has led to children being much better equipped to manage their emotions and behaviour within a busy school environment."
"Therapy sessions have had a measurable impact on the attainment and progress of children who have participated"
What parents of my young clients say?
"I am eternally grateful and feel like I have my loving kind boy back"
"You do an amazing job, thank you..."
"...since she’s seen you, there has been a massive improvement with her emotions both at school and home"
"...she (my daughter) loved your sessions and found them useful and they were a great support to me as well as my daughter"
"I appreciate the help and support you’ve offered (my son), I really do think it has helped!"
What is counselling?
When faced with difficult situations or stressful times in our lives, we sometimes find we use methods to cope that are not always very successful but we have got into a habit of using them.
Counselling offers a relationship and a space with someone outside of your normal family and friendship groups, that is confidential and safe because it is not based on judging you or giving advice. It allows you to explore your relationships, coping mechanisms and any traumas you may have experienced, helping you to reconnect with your own personal strengths and where appropriate develop new strategies for moving forward.
What is integrative counselling?
Integrative Counselling is an approach which combines the many different counselling models such as Psychodynamic (childhood and issues from the past), Person Centred (feeling heard and acknowledged, today), Cognitive Behavioural (using your logical, rational part of your brain to move forward) and Guided Imagery (images and metaphors to guide you to your path) to name a few. All of these therapeutic models have helped people with issues that affect their emotional wellbeing.
Since I first started as a qualified counsellor, I have experienced many different people over the years that led me to believe that 'one size does not fit all'. In fact many clients use a mixture of all of the above and find that tools and techniques when used within the counselling model, are very useful to them.
Thus the counselling I offer is based very heavily on what seems right for you at the time. So it may be mostly 'listening' at times and then move to image work or logical thinking. It all depends on what works best for you. This is Integrative Counselling.
